I’ll be honest — I didn’t expect to ever be writing about facial wax strips, but here we are.

Somewhere between 'I swear that peach fuzz wasn't there yesterday' and 'why is there suddenly a moustache I didn’t sign up for?', I found myself wandering down the skincare aisle at Woolies. That’s where I picked up the boddi by Marzena Selfie Ready Face Wax Strips (Sensitive – Beach Coconut).

They are currently available at my local Woolies for $9.00, but I picked my packet up on sale for $6.90, which immediately made them feel like a low-risk experiment rather than a beauty commitment.

First impressions: simple, no fuss

The packaging is straightforward — nothing overly clinical or intimidating. Inside you get:

  • 20 face wax strips

  • 4 after-wax soothing wipes

  • 99% natural ingredients claim (vegan, too!)

  • Dermatologically tested formula

The brand claims you can “stay bare for up to 4 weeks”, which honestly sounds optimistic for hormonal facial hair, but I was curious enough to test it properly.

Let’s talk about the actual hair issue

I’m in my mid-40s now, and like a lot of women at this stage, my facial hair has quietly changed the rules.

What was once undramatic, is now uncomfortably noticeable — soft peach fuzz along the sides of my face that feels more visible in certain light, and a faint moustache situation that I definitely didn’t have in my 30s.

The issue isn’t just the hair itself, it’s that it catches light differently and makes makeup sit a bit differently too. So I wanted something quick, affordable, and easy to use at home without turning it into a whole “appointment situation”.

Application: surprisingly easy

These strips are about as simple as waxing gets.

You:

  1. Rub the strip between your hands/fingers for a few seconds

  2. Peel it apart

  3. Press it onto clean, dry skin in the direction of hair growth

  4. Hold the skin taut

  5. Brace yourself… and rip

Yes, the “rip” is still the worst part, but it’s quick.

What I actually liked is that you can get more than one use out of each strip. I found:

  • 2 uses per strip is easy

  • 3 uses is possible, but it starts losing effectiveness

Also, there’s a bit of a learning curve if you’re doing your own face. I couldn’t fully see the side of my face properly in the mirror, so a few placements weren’t perfect. Any missed bits I just cleaned up with tweezers afterwards.

Performance: better than I expected

I’ve tried supermarket wax strips years ago and remember them being… patchy at best. Lots of hair left behind, sticky residue everywhere, and that annoying feeling that you need to “go over it again”.

These were different.

They actually removed the hair properly in one go, especially on the upper lip and cheek areas. No sticky residue left behind either, which I really appreciated — nothing worse than feeling like you need to oil-clean your face after waxing.

The hair regrowth has also been quite slow and noticeably less 'gnarly' and out of control. I actually feel more at peace with the fuzz now as it's growing in nice and neatly! Goodbye unruly face fuzz!

The pain factor (because yes, there is one)

Let’s not pretend it’s painless — it does sting.

But honestly, it’s no worse than any other waxing method I’ve used over the years. It’s that quick shock, then it’s done.

The key thing I learned: don’t go over the same area repeatedly. I did that once on my cheek and my skin definitely let me know about it afterwards.

Ouchies! I was a bit red, and had little bumps pop up on my face which lasted around 2 days. It was also quite sore for that duration.

Side effects: redness and bumps

This is where things got a bit less glamorous.

After using them, I had:

  • Redness immediately after waxing

  • A few small red bumps that lasted a couple of days (see pic)

  • Soreness in more sensitive areas

To be fair, I’ve had this reaction with pretty much every waxing product I’ve ever used on my face, so I don’t think it’s specific to this brand. My skin just tends to react when hair is pulled from the root.

It did settle though — just not instantly.

I also used the included after-wax soothing wipes. They felt nice and cooling at the time, but I can’t honestly say they made a huge difference to the overall redness or bumps.

The results: worth it?

Short answer: yes, for the price.

They are:

  • Affordable

  • Effective

  • Easy to use at home

  • Better than older supermarket strip formulas

They won’t give you a spa-level “no irritation ever” experience (I don’t think anything involving facial waxing truly does), but they absolutely do the job.

My honest review of boddi selfie ready face wax strips: Would I use them again?

Yes — I already have.

They’re one of those products that quietly earn a spot in the bathroom drawer because they’re convenient and do what they promise.

If you’ve got light facial hair, peach fuzz, or upper lip hair you want gone quickly without booking in somewhere, these are a solid option.

Just be realistic about the aftercare — your skin might need a bit of downtime afterwards, especially if you’re sensitive like me.

Final thoughts

At this stage in life, I’m less interested in complicated beauty routines and more interested in things that are simple, effective, and don’t cost a fortune.

The boddi by Marzena Selfie Ready Face Wax Strips tick most of those boxes. They’re practical — and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

If you’ve been noticing a bit of extra facial fuzz creeping in (welcome to the club), they’re worth a try.

And maybe schedule your waxing day when you don’t have anywhere important to be the next morning — just in case your skin decides to do its own little post-wax commentary.
